A Review - Terra's Wrath

I gave this book 3 out of 5 stars.

What can I say about this book? Wow. I guess I should start by saying that the concept behind this story is really quite unique in the "Apocalyptic" genre. I certainly didn't see it coming, and I really did like the originality of the characters and relationships. It was not what I expected at all. It was like the Days of our Lives take on a supernatural thriller.

There were things about it that I didn't like. I felt that the story shifted dramatically (and seriously abruptly) from time to time from the action-packed thrill ride to daytime network melodrama... and I found it kinda jarring. The expectations for the story's direction kept me reading though.

The setting seemed semi-rural and all too real. It's clear the author was sticking to her strengths and what she knows. The gun play seemed believable... and the yellow eyes (or Zombies, or whatever you want to call them) seemed truly menacing. Throw in the issues of environmentalism, climate change, troubled youths, and blue collar home builders... and you get a truly unique read.

The book is fast paced with a unique take on what could have easily been an overdone/overused plot, but that’s not all. It also boasts (what felt like) realistically written action scenes. I will be completely honest here and say that I didn’t really care for the way the story was written in places, but the overall drive and pacing of the plot kept me engaged and reading. There were several misused (not misspelled, mind you) words that threw me off a few times, but I still wanted to keep reading. I think that says a lot about the strength of the story... and my love of the tales of the world coming apart at the seams.

I don't want to give away spoilers, it's just not something I do. What I will say is if you are into reading new and unique takes on the "world coming apart" story... or "Zombie" tales...  this is worth your time. If you are into the melodrama of daytime network TV... mixed with the paranormal style... you'll dig it. I won’t say it’s a “must read”, but I will say it's got its moments, and it really is different, and overall kinda fun. I'm glad I read it.
